We were excited to receive a call from Gustavo from Jarabe Mexicano about filming end editing the Cinco de Mayo concert in the park. I've always had a love for latin music and dancing, so it was a fun event for me to be a part of.
The concert was put on by SDSU and the Kiwanis of San Diego. The show was most enjoyable! We plugged our audio device into the sound board so that we could get nice crisp, balanced audio of the event. We were lucky to have a sound professor running then board, too! We had a three camera set up, one wide back shot with our Canon C100, then we used our Canon 5D to get all of our close up footage. We also used a DJI OSMO to get our walking / dancing shots. That particular camera was very fun to work with because it is light weight, and on a gimbal, making it great for action footage. It even shoots in 4K!
When editing the show, we put together several different edits: two for Jarabe Mexicano, highlighting their songs, one for SDSU and two for the Kiwanis foundation, one long and one short (their two minute short edit is in this post).
When covering events, we always recommend AT LEAST two shooters. Events such as shows or concerts definitely look best with lots of close ups and moving shots, so having the ability to get those is ideal. We also always ask permission ahead of time to plug into the sound board so that we know we are going to get the audio we need. For music, the sound is super important of course!
When creating the edit, we also keep in mind that the client may want to use it not just as a highlight video but to create a promotional video for next years event.
