This fall, we were honored to film the San Diego Humane Society's Fur Ball. We love animals, and thought it was the perfect opportunity to get some super cute footage AND support a very good cause! A little more about the event:
On Sept. 9, San Diego Humane Society hosted 600 guests and 200 canines at its 31st annual Fur Ball gala. The evening was filled with live entertainment by Haute Chile, dancing, a delicious array of gourmet food prepared by Jeffrey Strauss of Pamplemousse Grill, and most importantly - an opportunity for guests to support San Diego Humane Society's work and animals right here in our community, both domestic and wildlife. Loyal animal supporters stepped up to the plate in a very impactful way! The event raised over $800,000 to support the animals and programs of San Diego Humane Society, making this the most successful Fur Ball to date! A special thank you to the major event sponsors: Petco, the Petco Foundation, Purina, VCA Animal Hospitals, EDCO Disposal Corporation, the Richard Woltman Foundation and Scott and Susie Tietjen.

This summer, I was asked to be a part of the second annual She Rocks! event. I was honored to be able to share my talent and meet up with a group of creative women and discuss not only business but friendship. I was motivated to learn more about this group because their networking theme wasn't simply handing out cards that we probably will end up forgetting about... But instead, this group focuses on building friendships and truly learning more about each other and how we can help each other. To me, it is more about the long term, less about the short term. We may not know exactly how this relationship may help us, it may not be obvious at all. But down the line, way later, we may have a phone call or new client that points back to that relationship!
Relationship building in the creative industry is very important. We believe not only community over competition, but we believe what we do as filmmakers can truly help other small businesses. I personally get excited work with other business to help them with their promotional video content. I especially love when they see the results they get from having different types of videos on their site. From highlight videos to how-to videos, we do it all, and we can help you, too!

When selling a home, or renting a property, sometimes photos just aren't enough. Some properties simply don't look as good as they do in person, thus, a home tour video is essential to show and highlight the home's best features!
When creating home tours, we can use several different tactics. We like to include drone footage to show the location, the views, and the layout of the home. We use steadicam "walk-through" footage to give viewers the sense of actually being there and to create a sense of movement. Components may vary from home to home, depending on what the goal is. If the realtor wants to create a connection with viewers, it may be beneficial to follow him or her through the house, telling / explaining the home to viewers. If it is for a home rental, seeing the realtor may not be so crucial, but a voiceover may be more appropriate. We can also use creative titles in order to highlight the homes features. Since many viewers watch from mobile devices and may not have their sound turned on, the subtitles / titles may be a better way to reach people.
The best way to approach home tours is to get the best shots and create a catchy promotional video so that viewers are intrigued and motivated to contact the realtor or property manger.

This was the first year we were available to participate and enjoy the All-Industry Cruise! We were asked to make a highlight video of the event. We decided to bring our new Canon 5D mark IV and take it for a test run. We REALLY loved the camera. It's got some great new features that the mark III did not have. It shoots 4K video, and has some nice autofocus tracking! It also looks amazing in low-light (see our last shot in this video, of the San Diego bay at night!)
We also loved the cruise! It was on the Inspiration Hornblower, and there was lots of appetizers, drinks, and dancing! It was definitely a fun event and there were people from all different types of businesses to network with.
Making highlight videos of events is a great way to promote the event for future years! When shooting, we look for the best shots, as well as find a way to include all the components. There were many different sponsors, so we tried to get shots that included them as well. When editing this type of video, we highlight the best parts yet keep it short and concise so people don't get bored. The worst thing is to have a boring video, and that is definitely NOT our style.
Enjoy this fun highlight, and maybe we will see on you board next year!
In July, we had an amazing opportunity to fly to Sayulita, Nayarit, Mexico. Our client, Sayulitalife.com had us connect with several businesses in Sayulita to feature in a highlight reel, so we set a schedule of events and enjoyed the experiences while documenting it at the same time!
We did a series of business, including 3 delicious restaurants and several activities. I absolutely loved our surf lesson with Wildmex Surf Adventure and our hike with Arturo at Mexitreks! There were lots of opportunities to fly the drone and get amazing aerial video.
We are currently in preproduction stages for our next shoot in Sayulita. Enjoy the highlight reel, and if you have any questions about booking your trip to Sayulita, what to do, or where to stay - check out www.sayulitalife.com, they have a wealth of great information about Sayulita.
What better time of year to have a back-to-school themed shoot! As summer ended and fall approached, I suggested to my clients at TTC that we do a shoot with kids of all ages, with a back to school theme! She mentioned that having a school bus would be especially fun and visually appealing. I tapped into my network and asked around, thinking that I would most likely be able to find a bus! I was right! One of my clients from a previous shoot got me in contact with her mom, who generously opened her house to our cast and crew! We had a blast getting some fun shots of the kids on the bus as well a on their tire swing.
Watch this fun promotional video to see cute kids, smiling and having fun while looking stylish!
Brand videos are always fun to create because it allows me to be creative and work with a variety of talent! Thanks to Camie Carpenter at Hollywood Talent & Associates for getting me super cute kids, and thanks to Carmen for use of her property! And of course, thank you to all the adorable kids who were well behaved and very cute.
When looking for new clients, I often think about businesses I personally would like to promote. What business owners have something that sets them apart? I saw Slim Gym from my backyard (literally, its across the street from where I live), and thought I would see what it was all about. I met with Vera, and she told me about her programs. I quickly realized this would be a great place to promote with video! People drive by small businesses all the time, but do they ever go in and see what its about? Maybe? But people are mostly on their phones at their desk, browsing Facebook or Instagram. Vera and I came up with a plan to create several videos for her, including small clips as well as fully edited promotional pieces. The day of the shoot consisted of a kids workout as well as a circuit workout for adults. Everyone got a great workout in and we got great footage! For more information about Vera's gym, check out www.slimgym.com.
Don't underestimate the power of video, since her videos have hit social media, she's seen a huge increase in business! It is really rewarding to see that happen.

In May, we had the opportunity to fly out to Salt Lake City to film a series of 15 business videos for Imagination Place. Imagination Place is a studio that offers both music lessons as well as AntiGravity fitness classes.
We scheduled a full day of shooting so that we could have a large amount of video content. We filmed several classes that day including private lessons, Music Together, Musical Bridge, Imagination Workshop and several AntiGravity fitness classes. We were able to get a large amount of great footage for the business videos as well as nice testimonials to edit into the videos.
We are excited to share one of our favorite business videos we created for their social media & website that highlights Music Together. Enjoy!
Last fall, we received a call from one of our clients, Fit4Mom, that they needed a series of online training videos! As a director / producer, I knew we could create high quality branded training videos for them and we embarked on a journey to do so!
The shoot consisted of three full days in the fall, and two three quarter days in the spring. We filmed content in studio with Erick as our teleprompter operator. We also filmed live classes, to use as a teaching tool for future and current Fit4Mom instructors so that they could learn and become certified.
This shoot was an awesome experience for many reasons. One, at Classic Commercial, we are a women owned business. We love working with other women entrepreneurs and it was an honor to work with Fit4Mom. Two, I personally have a love for all things fitness and health, so to me, this content was not only useful to the client, but it was interesting to me personally as well.
We had a blast learning more about Fit4Mom during this process and look forward to future shoots with them!
We were excited to receive a call from Gustavo from Jarabe Mexicano about filming end editing the Cinco de Mayo concert in the park. I've always had a love for latin music and dancing, so it was a fun event for me to be a part of.
The concert was put on by SDSU and the Kiwanis of San Diego. The show was most enjoyable! We plugged our audio device into the sound board so that we could get nice crisp, balanced audio of the event. We were lucky to have a sound professor running then board, too! We had a three camera set up, one wide back shot with our Canon C100, then we used our Canon 5D to get all of our close up footage. We also used a DJI OSMO to get our walking / dancing shots. That particular camera was very fun to work with because it is light weight, and on a gimbal, making it great for action footage. It even shoots in 4K!
When editing the show, we put together several different edits: two for Jarabe Mexicano, highlighting their songs, one for SDSU and two for the Kiwanis foundation, one long and one short (their two minute short edit is in this post).
When covering events, we always recommend AT LEAST two shooters. Events such as shows or concerts definitely look best with lots of close ups and moving shots, so having the ability to get those is ideal. We also always ask permission ahead of time to plug into the sound board so that we know we are going to get the audio we need. For music, the sound is super important of course!
When creating the edit, we also keep in mind that the client may want to use it not just as a highlight video but to create a promotional video for next years event.
